I've just learned that Helmer apparently fell at his home and it was a day or two before he was found on a wellness check.
He is in Whitehorse Hospital and could be there for a month.
Once he is released it's unlikely he will be able to return home and a care home will be required.
If there's any major update coming I'll let you know.
I'm passing this along since there's not a member that served in the Yukon or western Arctic in the last 50 years that didn't know Helmer.

Helmer has no phone number anymore and no access to a phone at
Whitehorse General Hospital.
Helmer's daughter Patty says the family will announce a tribute of well
wishes in the next couple weeks.
This will happen after Helmer is settled into full time care. Further
advice will follow.
PJ Thompson plans to organize a journal for those at Northern
Nite 2026, October 16/17, 2026 in Chilliwack.
Others can write a short message and PJ would cut and paste' those into
a journal for Helmer to read and keep.
